Henry County Public Health is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and community-minded Public Health Nurse to join our team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to serve the community in a meaningful public health role while maintaining a consistent weekday schedule with evenings, weekends, and holidays off.

The Public Health Nurse supports services that promote wellness, prevent disease, and connect Henry County residents with needed care and resources.

Position Summary

The Public Health Nurse assists in carrying out essential public health services through nursing care, health education, disease prevention, care coordination, and community outreach. Work may take place in the office, community settings, schools, clinics, and on rare occasions, in a client’s home.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

· Provide nursing services, education, and support to individuals and families.

· Administer immunizations and medications according to physician orders, agency policy, and current nursing standards.

· Assist with immunization clinics, including vaccine education, administration, documentation, and vaccine storage and handling procedures.

· Support communicable disease investigation, education, reporting, and follow-up as needed.

· Provide community health education and outreach.

· Assist with screenings, referrals, and care coordination for clients and families.

· Support public health programs such as newborn home visiting, lead poisoning prevention, cancer screening referrals, STD education/testing coordination, chronic disease support, and other assigned services.

· Maintain accurate documentation and protect client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

· Participate in quality improvement, community health assessment activities, and emergency preparedness efforts.

· Work collaboratively with local healthcare providers, schools, community partners, state agencies, and the public.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

· Current Iowa Registered Nurse license

· Minimum of two years of nursing experience

· Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire

· Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Reporter Training or ability to complete within six months of hire

· Ability to travel throughout the agency service area with reliable transportation

· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing needs

· Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Preferred qualifications:

· Public health, community health, clinic, maternal-child health, home visiting, communicable disease, or immunization experience

· Experience providing education to individuals, families, or community groups

· Familiarity with immunizations, vaccine storage and handling, ACIP recommendations, or public health reporting systems

Training

The selected candidate will be expected to complete public health-related training as required, including immunization training, vaccine storage and handling, basic epidemiology, advanced epidemiology when available, and other trainings required by the agency or state.

Work Environment

This position may involve work in office, clinic, school, community, and home settings. The Public Health Nurse must follow Universal Precautions and agency safety procedures. Occasional exposure to communicable disease or varied home environments may occur.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of:

· Background check and nursing license verification

· TB testing or documentation of TB testing within the past 12 months

· Pre-employment physical

· Drug screening
