Key Responsibilities
- Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventative care.
- Maintain and sterilize dental equipment.
- Document patient care and treatment plans.
- Perform comprehensive periodontal examinations, including probing depths, bleeding indices, recession, mobility, and furcation assessments.
- Record and monitor periodontal charting in accordance with clinical guidelines and update at regular intervals.
- Conduct scaling and root planing (SRP) procedures for patients with periodontal disease.
- Administer local anesthetics, subgingival irrigation and locally applied antimicrobial agents as needed.
- Take and evaluate digital radiographs to support diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques and home care compliance.
- Develop and implement periodontal maintenance schedules for patients with a history of periodontal disease.
- Collaborate with the dentist on treatment plans for complex cases.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, state licensure requirements, and infection control protocols.
- Stay current with continuing education and best practices in periodontal care.
- Participate in ongoing team education, lunch and learns, office meetings, and group hygiene networking to stay up-to-date with current clinical standards and best practices for office operations.
Skills and Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH).
- Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.
- In-depth knowledge of dental hygiene procedures.
- Proficiency with electronic dental records (EDR) and digital radiography.
- Team-oriented, reliable, and committed to delivering outstanding patient care.
