Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Police Officer & Lateral Police Officer role located in Henrico, VA. Team members patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to deter and detect criminal activity, respond to calls for service, and provide visible public safety presence. Daily responsibilities include enforcing local, state, and federal laws; conducting traffic stops; issuing warnings or citations; and making arrests when necessary. Officers gather and secure evidence, complete incident and investigative reports, and testify in court as required. The role also involves engaging with community members, participating in crime prevention and outreach initiatives, and collaborating with other public-safety and community partners to address public concerns and support a safe environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law Enforcement and Police procedures, including patrol operations and community-oriented policing.
  • Experience or aptitude in Criminal Investigations, including interviewing, report writing, and case follow-up.
  • Ability to properly collect, document, and preserve Evidence in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
  • Previous experience as Police Officers or Lateral Police Officers is preferred for lateral candidates; entry-level candidates should demonstrate readiness to complete academy training.
  • High school diploma or GED required; college coursework or a degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet physical, medical, and background standards for sworn law enforcement positions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment under pressure, and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse community members.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, and to complete required basic and ongoing in-service training.
