What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Landscape Maintenance Technician / Crew Lead position at Henningsen Property Maintenance?
Experienced Landscape Maintenance Technician / Crew Lead
Pay: $21.00–$35.00 per hour
Schedule: Four 10-hour days, Monday–Thursday
Henningsen Property Maintenance (HPM) is hiring an experienced landscape professional who produces high-quality work without constant instruction or supervision.
This is not an entry-level position. We need someone with recent, hands-on experience in professional lawn maintenance and landscape installation—not someone whose experience was limited to general labor, cleanup, or occasionally helping a landscape crew.
If you notice crooked bed edges, uneven mowing stripes, missed trimming, improperly installed plants, or sloppy cleanup—and correct it without being asked—you may be a good fit.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Perform commercial and residential lawn maintenance
- Create straight, consistent mowing patterns and professional stripes
- Trim accurately around buildings, beds, trees, and obstacles
- Produce clean bed edges using a commercial bed edger
- Identify and properly install common trees, shrubs, roses, perennials, and landscape materials
- Complete landscape maintenance, pruning, seasonal trimming, cleanups, and installations
- Safely operate commercial zero-turn mowers, walk-behind mowers, trimmers, blowers, bed edgers, and other landscape equipment
- Drive company vehicles and safely back and maneuver landscape trailers
- Inspect completed work and correct quality issues before leaving the property
- Communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and customers
- Hardscape installation experience with pavers, patios, and retaining walls is a plus
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- At least three years of recent professional landscaping or lawn-maintenance experience
- Demonstrated experience operating commercial mowing equipment
- Ability to independently mow, trim, edge, blow, and complete final quality checks
- Experience operating a commercial bed edger
- Working knowledge of common landscape plants and proper planting techniques
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate company vehicles
- Ability to perform the physical duties of the position throughout a 10-hour workday
- Reliable transportation to work
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to follow instructions, work efficiently, and accept performance feedback
- Professional language and conduct on company property and customer job sites
ATTENDANCE AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
Employees are expected to arrive on time and ready to work. Unreliable attendance, late arrivals, no-call/no-shows, unsafe driving, excessive personal phone use, careless equipment operation, and unprofessional conduct are not acceptable.
HPM maintains high workmanship standards. Employees must be willing to receive direct feedback and correct deficiencies immediately.
COMPENSATION
Starting pay is based on demonstrated skill, experience, reliability, and the level of responsibility the employee can handle independently. The top of the advertised range is reserved for highly experienced candidates who can consistently perform at a crew-lead level—it is not an automatic starting rate.
WHY HPM?
- Four 10-hour workdays with three-day weekends
- Paid 30-minute lunch
- Steady, varied outdoor work
- Professional commercial equipment
- Opportunities to earn more by demonstrating additional skills, leadership, efficiency, and dependability
- A company that values quality workmanship and accountability
HIRING PROCESS
Qualified applicants should be prepared to discuss the specific equipment they have operated, the landscape work they can complete independently, and the types of plants and materials they have worked with.
Final candidates may be asked to complete a paid hands-on skills evaluation involving commercial mowing, trimming, bed edging, equipment operation, trailer maneuvering, and basic plant identification.
Employment history and professional references may be verified.
TO APPLY
Please answer the following questions:
- How many years of professional lawn-maintenance and landscaping experience do you have?
- Which commercial mowers and landscape equipment can you operate independently?
- Have you regularly operated a commercial bed edger?
- Can you safely drive a truck and back a landscape trailer?
- What landscape installation and plant-care work can you complete without supervision?
- What hourly rate are you requesting, and which skills qualify you for that rate?
We would rather hire one highly capable, dependable landscaper than three average employees. If you take pride in doing the job correctly the first time, we would like to hear from you.
