Position Summary
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation of a six-story, fully occupied commercial office building. This position plays a vital role in providing a clean, safe, and professional environment for tenants, visitors, and employees. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Remove trash and recycling from designated tenant suites, common areas, and exterior receptacles.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs throughout the building.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain hard-surface flooring.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, countertops, and fixtures.
- Replenish restroom supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other consumables.
- Clean and maintain lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, break rooms, conference rooms, and other common areas.
- Dust furniture, windowsills, ledges, vents, and other surfaces.
- Spot clean walls, doors, windows, and glass as needed.
- Monitor the building throughout the day to address spills, safety hazards, and cleanliness concerns promptly.
- Maintain janitorial equipment and ensure cleaning supplies are properly stored and inventoried.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged property, or unsafe conditions to management.
- Follow all company safety procedures and properly use cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with special cleaning projects as assigned.
- Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous service when interacting with tenants and visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous commercial janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and tenants.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Regularly bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Operate vacuums, mops, floor cleaning equipment, and other janitorial tools safely.
- Work in a physically demanding environment while maintaining productivity throughout the shift.
