Hendrix College seeks a dynamic and student-centered Director of Orientation and Student Engagement (DOSE) to support and enrich the student experience through innovative programming, student leadership development, and campus engagement. This position plays a key role in shaping campus culture by planning, implementing, and assessing educational, social, and recreational events and traditions that promote school spirit, belonging, and leadership.

This is a full-time, 12-month administrative staff position who reports to the Assistant Dean of Students.

Key Responsibilities

Student Engagement & Event Coordination

  • Assist in the planning and execution of campus-wide events, programs, and traditions that promote student involvement and community.
  • Assume shared leadership and responsibility for the event planning, oversight and management of traditional student events.
  • In close collaboration with various campus partners, lead the development and execution of Warrior Welcome (new student orientation), to include the hiring and training of student staff, oversite and varied and required logistics, as well as program assessment.
  • Support student organizations with event planning, logistics, risk management, and compliance with institutional policies.

Student Leadership Support

  • Advise and support student leaders and organization officers in planning activities and programs, risk management, and compliance with College policies.
  • Serve as a co-advisor to the Student Government Association (SGA), providing guidance in governance, leadership development, and event planning.
  • Assist with leadership development initiatives and training workshops.
  • Maintain accurate records for student organizations, including constitutions, budgets, and rosters.

Community & Campus Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between students, staff, and departments to ensure successful programming and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate co-curricular initiatives with academic and community engagement goals.
  • Promote an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment for all students.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage the Student Activities budget, ensuring responsible fiscal planning and accountability.
  • Prepare reports on student engagement, participation data, and program outcomes.
  • Lead event oversight, to include logistic management of student events, including email announcements, social media, and other promotional materials.
  • Ensure events and programs follow college policies, accessibility standards, and risk management guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in student activities, student life, or student affairs in higher education.
  • Strong skills in program development, advising student leaders, and event planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and engage diverse student populations.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience with budget management, student organization support, and data-informed assessment.
  • Proficiency with student organization management software or event platforms preferred.
  • Commitment to community and belonging in student programming.

Working Conditions

  • Requires evening and weekend availability to support student programs and leadership development initiatives.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary for professional development or training.
