What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer, Vehicle Engineering position at Hendrick Motorsports?
Join Hendrick Motorsports and help develop the electrical systems behind our NASCAR Cup Series cars. In this role you'll bridge Vehicle Production Electrical and Vehicle Engineering, owning electrical solutions from design through hands-on execution and validation.
What you'll do
- Own and improve the car's 12V electrical architecture: power distribution, grounding, protection, wiring, connectors, sensors, and control modules
- Design wire harnesses and PCBs, and release changes under configuration control
- Troubleshoot intermittent and repeatable faults using schematics, measurements, and data logs
- Set up and integrate motorsport control, PDM, and data acquisition systems over CAN, LIN, and other networks
- Build test plans and automate testing with DAQ and PLC systems
- Maintain and upgrade our test machines (MTS, Servotest, Pushup Rig)
- Support race and test events as needed
What you bring
- Bachelor's in engineering and 3–5 years of experience
- Analog and digital circuit design, strong soldering skills (including SMD rework), and fluency with DMMs and oscilloscopes
- Working knowledge of power electronics (buck/boost converters, rectifiers, high- and low-side switches)
- PCB design experience (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar)
- Experience with low-voltage harness design and motorsport or Mil-Spec connectors (Autosport, Souriau, DTM/DT/DTP)
- Experience with DAQ and PLC test automation, and maintaining electro-hydraulic test machines
- Understanding of automotive electrical systems and CAN/LIN
- Strong problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Flexibility to occasionally support race and test events, including limited travel as needed
A plus
- Motorsport electronics and software (Motion Applied, Cosworth, Bosch, Motec, Holley EFI)
- Harness software (Capital Harness, Zuken E3, Harnware)
- Motorsport data analysis tools (Pi, Atlas, WinDarab, i2)
- Microcontroller experience
- Motorsport or high-performance vehicle experience
The role works mainly in a shop and lab, with occasional outdoor work at tracks. It requires PPE, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
