What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Around Water Instructor | Henderson Family YMCA position at Henderson Young Mens Christian Association, Inc?
Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Swim Instructor will deliver excellent customer service to all members, guests and program participants. Responds to member and guest needs, promotes all aquatic programs and activities, and gives all participants, members or potential member the best swim instruction possible in accordance with the stated mission, goals and policies established by the administrative staff and Board of Directors.
Job Schedule: Monday through Friday from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Must work 4 shifts per week.
Essential Functions:
- Report directly to the Director of Aquatics.
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of program participants.
- Be knowledgeable of and teach swimming and water safety skills under YMCA or American Red Cross standards.
- Maintain records necessary for all swim lessons such as attendance and skills.
Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Must have Water Safety Instructor or must instruct under the Director of Aquatics and/or Swim Lesson Coordinator Supervisor.
- Must attend preseason training, specific program training and successfully pass Swim Instructor Training from Director of Aquatics and/or Swim Lesson Coordinator.
- Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to connect with people of all ages (children and parents).

- Dress appropriately; one piece or tankini swimsuit for females and swimming trunks for males while in the water. Bikinis and/or speedos are not acceptable attire.
- The employee frequently is required to walk, stand, kneel and stoop.
- The noise level in the wok environment is usually moderate.
