Reporting into the Director of Revenue, the Client Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing billing and collections activities in alignment with organizational best practices and client-specific requirements. This role partners closely with senior stakeholders, practice leadership, and cross-functional finance teams to ensure accurate invoicing, effective revenue management, and high-quality reporting. The position also plays a key role in team leadership, training, and continuous process improvement across the revenue cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee end-to-end billing and collections activities to ensure timely, accurate invoicing and receipt of client payments across assigned groups or offices.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and take appropriate action to drive timely resolution of outstanding balances, including directing follow-up on underpayments and discrepancies.
- Conduct regular invoice reviews and audits to identify errors, trends, and opportunities for improvement; address training or development needs as identified.
- Ensure client requirements, fee arrangements, and billing guidelines are properly documented and consistently followed to support seamless team coverage and collaboration.
- Identify, implement, and monitor initiatives to improve billing efficiency, accuracy, and overall revenue cycle performance.
- Analyze billing and collections data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Respond to billing and accounts receivable inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and deliver regular reporting on unbilled time, accounts receivable, and key performance metrics for senior leadership.
- Collaborate with cross-functional finance teams, including pricing, e-billing, and reporting, to ensure accurate invoices, compliant submissions, and consistent reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate updates to financial reports, forecasts, and commentary to support management decision-making.
- Participate in practice group and/or office meetings to understand business strategy, challenges, and priorities; provide updates and insights as required.
- Manage, coach, and develop team members, ensuring appropriate training, performance support, and coverage during peak periods.
- Escalate billing or collection issues as necessary and partner with senior stakeholders to drive resolution.
- Build strong working relationships across finance teams and business stakeholders to support collaboration and service delivery.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce billing policies, procedures, and standard operating practices in accordance with internal controls and client requirements.
- Deliver training on billing processes, systems, tools, and revenue-related best practices.
- Participate in technology initiatives, including system testing, enhancements, and process reviews.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts aimed at reducing revenue cycle timelines, enhancing reporting quality, and improving matter and client intake accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, but not required
- 8 years of Legal Billing experience handling end to end revenue processes
- 2 years of direct management experience
- Exposure to financial reporting and general accounting knowledge preferred
- Aderant preferred
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication (both written & verbal)
- Experience interfacing with firm Partners & Clients
- Strong Excel
This is a hybrid opportunity based out of the firm's Washington, DC office.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
Salary : $175,000 - $190,000
