Position Title:
4th Grade Reading Teacher
Reports To:
Campus Administration
Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in reading/language arts designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Enable students to develop literacy skills aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate (Core Subjects EC6 or equivalent) or enrolled and progressing in an alternative certification program
- ESL certification (preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of literacy instruction and curriculum standards
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Planning and Delivery
- Develop and implement TEKS-aligned lesson plans for 4th-grade reading
- Deliver instruction using a variety of research-based strategies
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Integrate writing and critical thinking into reading instruction
Assessment and Data Use
- Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments
- Use student data to inform instructional decisions
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Support student readiness for state assessments (STAAR)
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain a structured and positive learning environment
- Implement effective classroom management strategies
- Monitor student behavior and enforce campus expectations
Intervention and Support
- Provide targeted small-group instruction and interventions
- Participate in MTSS/RTI processes and documentation
- Collaborate with interventionists, special education staff, and support personnel
Collaboration and Communication
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Collaborate with grade-level and campus staff
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete records (grades, attendance, documentation)
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Comply with district policies, procedures, and state regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration
Work Environment
- Elementary classroom setting
- Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with students
- Occasional extended hours for school events and meetings
