Job Overview
The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for ensuring that all physical facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, and functional condition suitable for the level of care and services provided. This role provides leadership in maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, and safety efforts, and oversees the operation, repair, and compliance of all facility systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and evaluates all maintenance activities across physical facilities to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
• Supervises daily operations and functions of maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry personnel.
• Develops and enforces departmental policies and procedures to guide daily operational tasks.
• Schedules work assignments and ensures adherence to planned maintenance schedules.
• Coordinates maintenance activities with nursing and other departments, particularly in patient and resident areas.

-Leads interdepartmental communication and collaboration to ensure service delivery goals are met. Maintains and oversees critical facility systems including: -plumbing and electrical systems, emergency power and lighting systems, air handling and HVAC systems, pneumatic controls, oxygen supply systems, and fire alarms and detection systems

• Ensures fire prevention and protection programs are maintained, including regular fire drills and inspections.
• Enforces safety protocols and ensures proper use of equipment and PPE by all staff.
• Maintains and updates Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and ensures proper chemical labeling and storage.
• Oversees waste disposal practices and ensures compliance with sanitation standards.
• Performs and supervises tasks involving carpentry, painting, and furniture repairs.
• Oversees floor maintenance, including vacuuming, waxing, and cleaning.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization in all plant operations work areas (e.g., boiler room, generator room, storage areas).
• Serves as Safety Director and chairs the Safety Committee, including maintaining and updating by-laws.
• Promotes infection control and universal precautions in all departmental activities.
• Coordinates in-service education and training for plant operations staff.
• Procures supplies and equipment necessary for ongoing operations and repairs.
• Participates in management and supervisory meetings, as well as facility-wide committee functions.
• Supports new construction and renovation projects as directed.
• Collects, analyzes, and submits reports and records to support departmental performance and compliance

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of trade school and/or experience in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electricity or other technical areas preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

A valid drivers license for the State of Nebraska is required. DOT HAZMAT (may be obtained).
