What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Fluid Simulations Engineer position at HEN Technologies?
About HEN
HEN Technologies is a deep-tech company building the world’s first end-to-end intelligent fire suppression ecosystem, powered by AI, IoT, and advanced fluid dynamics. The company’s mission is to modernize how the world prevents and responds to fires by replacing outdated, manual systems with connected, data-driven technology that is more water-efficient and intelligently coordinated across every layer of the fireground. Backed by funding from Venture Capital investors, HEN Technologies is proving that the future of fire defense is intelligent, connected, and preventative.

Role Description
HEN is continuously innovating to deliver groundbreaking products to the firefighting industry, and we are seeking an expert with deep experience in fluid dynamics and multiphysics modeling to help drive world-class product performance.
In this role, you will develop and refine physics-based models to solve complex fluid and multiphysics problems, including turbulent flow, spray dynamics, heat transfer, and structural–fluid interactions. You will define complex meshing strategies, including dynamic/moving mesh setups, execute high-fidelity CFD and coupled multiphysics simulations for both internal and external flows, and extract actionable insights to guide product architecture. Working closely with design engineers, you will translate simulation results into clear design recommendations and rapidly validate them through hands-on prototyping (e.g., 3D printing) and testing.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong bias toward action, a passion for hands-on experimentation, and a desire to see their simulations implemented in real-world, high-impact products.
What you’ll do
- Lead end-to-end CFD analysis for small assemblies to complex systems, including geometry preparation, model setup, solver configuration, post-processing, and results interpretation.
- Conduct advanced CFD simulations, including comprehensive parametric studies and Design of Experiments (DOE), to predict system behavior and optimize performance.
- Collaborate to build and execute testing on hands-on test rigs to validate simulation results, ensuring accuracy of models and robustness of designs in real-world conditions. Leverage rapid prototyping techniques, such as 3D printing, for quick iteration on physical designs.
- Collaborate with design engineers and build hands-on test rigs to validate simulation results, ensuring accuracy of models and robustness of designs in real-world conditions
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (electronics, firmware, manufacturing, systems) to integrate fluid components into the larger product architecture
- Develop validation plans, execute prototype testing and analyze data to iterate to designs quickly
What you’ll bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering with strong emphasis on fluids and CFD in high-performance product development.
- Strong grasp of mechanical fundamentals: fluid dynamics, multiphysic flow, and thermodynamics with the ability to define the physics and equations of the real process.
- Demonstrated Expert-level proficiency with ANSYS Fluent and CFX for complex fluid systems. Experience with ANSYS Workbench and its parametric functionalities is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience building experimental setups and test rigs, including proficiency with sensors, data acquisition, and interpretation of experimental uncertainty. Proven ability to use rapid prototyping (e.g., 3D printing) to quickly build and iterate on physical concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a first-principles approach, able to balance trade-offs between performance, cost and manufacturability
- Bonus: Experience with flow sensors, valves, or other fluid handling components in high-pressure environments
