Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse. Currently licensed in the State of New York as an R.N. Knowledge of MDS, IV Certification and Supervisory skills required. Infection Preventionist Certification preferred.
- Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five years supervisory experience in Long Term Care.
- Two years Hospital experience in a specialty unit preferred.
- Knowledge of EMR, computer skills required.
Reports Directly to Director of Nursing Service

Working Conditions
Works in office areas as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e. medication, resident’s rooms, etc.)

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.

Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc throughout the workday.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including AIDS and Hepatitis B Viruses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assume responsibility to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate the activities of the Nursing Department.
- Develop a written philosophy and objective for the nursing department, which communicates and
interprets these objectives to the personnel of the department, and their implementation to
Administration, Medical Staff and other Departments.
- Establish and implement standards of care, policies and procedures.
- Establishes the qualification and functions for each nursing position.
- Determines staffing plan to accomplish objectives and standards, and promotes maximum
utilization of all nursing personnel. Observes and maintains adequate personnel, effecting a
working time schedule.
- Coordinates the services of nursing staff- with differentiated but interrelated responsibilities so that
residents will receive the best possible care.
- Is cost effective in daily operations.
- Provides a written plan of organization designed to implement and facilitate achievement of
departmental objectives; indicates areas of responsibility to whom and for whom each person is
accountable and the major channels for communication.
- Approve and monitors in-service education programs.
- Establishes standards for measurements of quality assurance.
- Imitates and promotes studies and research on administrative, supervisory and nursing care
practices.
- Assists in preparing and administering the department’s budget.
- Attends seminars, conferences and workshops relating to nursing/resident care to keep abreast of
current issues.
- Personally interviews and assesses each candidate for employment.
- Counsels employees, making referrals where necessary.
- Members of various committees relating to interdisciplinary functions of the facility.
- Oversees, administers disciplinary action as indicated.
- Performs other related duties as required and all other unrelated duties as requested during an
emergencies.
- Serve on various committees of the facility as required by existing regulations and as appointed by
the administrator.
- Evaluate and implement recommendations from the facility’s committees, e.g. Utilization review,
Pharmacy, Infection Control, etc.
- Assist in developing nursing care plans for individual patients.
- Participate in patient selection in relation to nursing needs and the capability of the department of
supply the needed care.
- Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary oral / written reports to the administrator.
- Assist in setting standards for department personnel.
- Review complaints and grievances and make necessary oral / written reports to the administrator.
- Keep abreast of economic conditions / situations and recommend adjustments to assure the
continued ability to provide quality patient care.
- Represent the facility at and participate in top level meetings.
- Represent the facility in dealing with outside agencies, including governmental agencies and third
party payees, or provide an authorized representative when unable to attend such meetings.
- Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible department personnel.
- Attend and participate in workshops, seminar, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the health
care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.

regarding wearing of uniform and appropriate cover gowns/coats where applicable.

care activities
- Conforms to policies governing patient abuse, patient rights, domestic violence, and
confidentiality of information
- Performs all related duties as required and unrelated duties as requested during emergencies.
Employee will receive in service education for all mandatory topics, upon hire, and at least, annually
thereafter. The facility Administrator and/or designee will be responsible for conducting observations,
evaluations and competencies of the employee to ensure compliance and competency. Employee is
expected to follow all facility policies and procedures referenced upon hire and as needed including
timeliness, attendance, confidentiality, and professionalism. Attire is expected to be neat, hygienic,
and professional.
