Job Title: Building Engineer

Position Overview
The Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s physical facilities and systems to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for guests and staff. This position oversees all building systems—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and pool operations—and ensures compliance with all applicable codes, safety standards, and brand requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, solutions-oriented technician who takes pride in proactive maintenance, guest satisfaction, and the long-term performance of the property.
Key Responsibilities
General Building Maintenance
- Perform daily inspections and preventive maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and building systems.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders to minimize downtime or guest inconvenience.
- Maintain all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical systems in optimal working order.
- Supervise or assist outside contractors performing specialized repairs or capital improvements.
- Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts.
Pool and Spa Operations
- Oversee daily care, operation, and safety of the property’s aquatic facilities, including the main swimming pool and hot tub.
- Test and balance water chemistry (chlorine, pH, alkalinity) to meet local health department regulations.
- Maintain pool filtration, circulation, and heating systems.
- Record all pool maintenance activities and inspections as required by code.
- Ensure safety equipment, signage, and enclosures are compliant and well-maintained.
Preventive Maintenance & Safety
- Implement and manage a preventive maintenance program for all building systems and guest rooms.
- Conduct routine life-safety and emergency systems tests, including fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinklers, and emergency lighting.
- Support OSHA, EPA, and local code compliance.
- Participate in safety meetings and respond to property emergencies as needed (on call rotation may apply).
Administration
- Maintain maintenance logs, pool records, and equipment warranties.
- Track capital improvement and repair budgets.
- Assist management in developing annual maintenance plans and project scopes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a building or maintenance engineer, preferably in a hotel or commercial property.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and pool systems.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying environmental conditions.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings as needed.
