TEACHER OF PRESCHOOL STUDENTS / SPECIAL EDUCATION
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The teacher of the Preschool Students/Special Education program provides an educational program for students identified in accordance with state eligibility criteria and Hemet Unified School District procedure. These students may exhibit any one of five of the following areas: self-help, communication, gross motor, fine motor, social-adaptive, and/or be considered at-risk due to medical or other conditions. The instructor of this program shall provide an instructional program based on individual needs as identified in the IEP goals and objectives in cooperation with instructional assistants, psychologist, counselor, designated instruction and service support personnel, and administration. Students in this class may require assistance with toileting, feeding, or other self-help skills.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist students in developing daily living and self-help skills, fine and sensory skills, expressive and receptive language, and adaptive communication skills; assist with feeding, toileting, clothing and transfer; instruct students in specific academic areas and prepare instructional materials; teach appropriate pre-vocational and vocation curriculum; evaluate, coordinate and participate in mainstreaming activities; prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records including basic attendance and accounting records in accordance with district policy and appropriate program records; assist in development and implementation of an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each student in the program and confer frequently with parents and staff on individual student progress; assist in program development; provide guidance and supervision for instructional assistant(s) assigned to the program; perform related duties as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching experience with special education preschool students.
CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENT
Valid California Specialist instruction credential with an authorization to teach a special class in which the primary disability is "specific learning disability."
