Position Overview
Hembree Transport Inc., an independent service provider for FedEx, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Manager to support daily package delivery operations. This role is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and on-time performance across multiple delivery routes.
The Assistant Manager works closely with the General Manager to supervise drivers, coordinate dispatch, monitor service levels, and maintain compliance with DOT and FedEx standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily pickup & delivery (P&D) operations across assigned routes
- Support dispatch operations, including route planning and load coordination
- Supervise and coach drivers to ensure safety, performance, and professionalism
- Monitor key performance metrics (service levels, stop counts, delivery times)
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Conduct ride-alongs, safety observations, and performance reviews
- Address service failures, customer issues, and operational challenges in real-time
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of drivers and staff
- Maintain accurate records (driver files, vehicle compliance, incident reports)
- Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience (logistics or transportation preferred)
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Experience managing teams and holding employees accountable
- Proficient in basic computer systems and reporting tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FedEx, Amazon DSP, or similar last-mile delivery operations
- Knowledge of DOT compliance and safety standards
- Dispatch or route planning experience
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass background check and 10-panel drug screening
- Ability to pass a DOT physical
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
- Physically capable of supporting operations as needed (lifting up to 50lbs maneuver packages up to 150lbs with assistance of a handcart, working outdoors)
