Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse / Medical Assistant is responsible for directly assisting the practice physicians, maintaining consistent patient flow, triage patient calls, organize diagnostic procedures and arrange follow-up care as directed by physician and physician assistants. The LPN/MA assist the physician during the appointment with patients upon request. In addition, the LPN/MA is also responsible for a rotation in Triage to assist with injections
Responsibilities
-Reviews each patient electronic medical record (EMR) for the assigned provider, ensuring documentation accuracy and the completion of diagnostic procedures with results therein
-Maintains consistent patient flow to assigned provider by consulting frequently with electronic scheduling program, tracking patient in facility and escorting them to examination room
-Conducts a focused discussion regarding the patient’s current state of health. Obtains and records vitals (temperature, apical pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure and pain scale, if any
-Communicates any changes or abnormalities to provider. Upon recognizing and emergent abnormality communicates with an RN, extender or patient’s physician immediately
-Triages patient calls in a timely manner; not to exceed twenty-four (24) hours with appropriate documentation
-Maintains neat and sanitary exam rooms ensuring rooms are stocked with necessary / required supplies; exam tables cleaned and changing of pillow cases throughout the week, while also checking (on Thursdays) and pulling all sharps containers when needed
