Job Overview:
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Party Chief to lead our land surveying field crew. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in topographic, construction, and as-built mapping, with hands-on experience using Carlson Software. This is a leadership role that requires excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a field survey crew, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient workflow
- Perform and oversee topographic, construction, and as-built mapping projects
- Operate and troubleshoot survey instruments, including total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors
- Utilize Carlson Software for field data collection and field-to-finish processing
- Review field notes and drawings for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality control procedures
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors
- Maintain and enforce safety protocols, including valid SST Card requirements for all crew members
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Comply with all site safety requirements, including holding a valid SST Card (OSHA 40)
- Extensive experience in land surveying with a focus on topographic, as-built, and construction mapping
- Proficient in Carlson Software and standard surveying tools and equipment
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing or supervising field crews
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Union affiliation is preferred; open to training the right individual without current union membership
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions and challenging terrain
Preferred Experience:
- Prior work experience in a unionized surveying environment
- Knowledge of construction site protocols and documentation standards
- FAA Part 107 UAV Pilot Certification and experience operating UAVs for aerial mapping
- Hands-on experience with Leica LiDAR scanners for high-accuracy 3D data collection
- Familiarity with managing or working on multiple survey projects simultaneously
