What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geotechnical Field Technician position at HELS?
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Geotechnical Field Technician to support geotechnical, environmental, instrumentation, and geophysical field projects. The role involves fieldwork, equipment management, site monitoring, and accurate documentation. Ideal candidates will have strong technical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in dynamic field conditions.
General Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Geotechnical, Environmental & Monitoring (GEM) Department and other company teams to provide cross-functional field support.
Continuously improve processes while upholding quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards.
Technical Responsibilities
Manage, track, and maintain field equipment inventory to ensure operational readiness.
Coordinate with Project Managers for timely procurement and deployment of field equipment.
Configure and update equipment using appropriate software tools; upload and organize data.
Document field activities and maintain accurate as-built documentation.
Site Visit Responsibilities
Perform instrumentation installations, inspections, maintenance, and removals for geotechnical, environmental, and geophysical projects.
Conduct field surveys and collect soil, water, and environmental samples as needed.
Record site observations through detailed field notes, daily reports, photos, and logs.
Skills & Certification Requirements
Background in Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering, Earth Science, Construction Materials Testing, or related field preferred.
Experience in sample collection and laboratory testing is an advantage.
Ability to travel to job sites and work safely in outdoor field conditions.
Strong attention to detail, documentation, and data organization.
Valid driver’s license (required for most field assignments).
Salary: $20 - $30 per hour
