What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receiving Associate position at Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank?
Primary Purpose
The Receiving Associate ensures that product that is either purchased or donated to Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank is counted properly and accurately entered into the inventory system. Additionally, this position will assist in the sorting and weighing of products donated by retail stores throughout Berks and Schuylkill Counties. The Receiving Associate position will interact with drivers, members of the general public, as well as other Helping Harvest Food Bank employees as part of the position.
Essential Duties
- Responsible for the completion of paperwork for incoming deliveries and drivers - for products that are donated, purchased or delivered from the federal government.
- Sort product from retail donations by category and accurately weigh items.
- Receive all product (donated, purchased and governmental) both from outside vendors and Helping Harvest Food Bank retail pick-ups.
- Count items accurately and enter products into the inventory system.
- Using a barcode scanner, locate items in the inventory system and physically in the warehouse.
- Properly complete all receiving documents and submit paperwork to the Inventory Specialist for review.
- Asist with the loading and unloading of delivery vehicles, as well as Helping Harvest Food Bank trucks, as needed.
- Oversee the Agency Pick-up Area, provide customer service to agencies and donors in a timely and friendly manner.
- Assist with agency pick-ups by ensuring all product is brought out and paperwork is completed.
- Follow cleaning schedules for the Receiving and APA area (both warehouse side and public side) and assist with other areas as directed.

Job Requirements:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, previous experience with receiving preferred.
- Ability to multitask, set and manage priorities based on organization's needs.
- Willingness to take initiative and ownership of daily operational processes.
- Capable of working in indoor walk-in freezers and refrigerators, as well in a warehouse with a moderate noise level.
- Ability to work with peers in a positive manner on a daily basis in order to support the organization's mission.
- Capable of safely operating machinery (forklift, reach truck, ride along and walk behind pallet jacks).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
