What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linda's House Manager position at Help In Crisis, Inc.?
Safety & Shelter Operations
- Conduct, document, and monitor regular safety checks (entire property)
- Lead and document safety drills (fire, tornado, intruder)
- Maintain daily Shelter logs and Safeline logs
- Respond to after-hours staff calls (evenings, nights, weekends) and provide support and guidance
- Coordinate training new staff on:
- Shelter operations
- Emergency procedures
- Trauma-informed approaches
- Empower DB data entry
- Oversee house meetings with guests (expectations, policies, support)
- Monitor guest compliance with guidelines (e.g., contraband, chores, pet care) and Attorney General Sanctions.
Environment & Facility Care
- Oversee cleanliness and order of all communal spaces
- Supervise house laundry maintenance
- Monitor guest chores and recycling compliance
- Light maintenance: Replace light bulbs, batteries, air filters
- Address small repairs (doorknobs, clogged drains, etc.)
- Keep up supply inventories (paper products, cleaning items)
- Identify larger issues (gate repairs, HVAC, electrical problems) and report to Shelter Director/DSO
- Support keeping playroom, kitchen, laundry room, and common areas clean and safe
Guest Support
- Assist with intakes and discharges
- Ensure guests have needed supplies (bedding, hygiene, etc.)
- Help guests understand shelter expectations
- Coach guests through safe storage of belongings and medication
- Support guests with practical needs (laundry help, food safety, facility usage)
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with: Shelter Director, Shelter Administrative Support, Case Manager, & Child Advocate
- Be the go-to support person for advocates on shift
- Lead or participate in team huddles
- Help coordinate donations organization and inventory
- Provide feedback to Shelter Director and coaching to staff as needed
- Model trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, empowering care for guests and colleagues
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in Empower DB
- Maintain and file exit cards (filed by maiden name)
- Identify and maintain compliance for all grants
- Monitor and track: Bus tickets, incentives, guest logs, incident reports, verify logs for consistency and completeness, & help monitor and prepare compliance documentation as requested by Shelter Director
Other Expectations
- Travel up and down stairs frequently
- Lift donations and supplies (often heavy)
- Work evenings, nights, days and weekends as needed
- Collaborate with last-minute schedule needs
- Respond quickly and provide support to urgent shelter situations
- Embody a calm, solutions-focused, “we can figure this out” attitude
- Bring creativity and initiative to keep the shelter organized, clean, and welcoming
Pay: From $36,000.00 per year
