The Position

The Company
Hellman-Chang is a high-end, industry-leading American furniture brand distributed nationwide and fabricated in Dawsonville, GA. We are a fast-growing, handmade-to-order furniture company, originally from Brooklyn, New York, that is expanding in our newly-built Dawsonville, Georgia facility. The brand is considered a leader in the high-end residential furniture market, sold to the Interior Design trade. Our contemporary line is both unique and expertly crafted with an emphasis on quality, beautiful finishes and fine materials such as solid woods, veneers, metals and stone. We are looking for team members who are excited to share our vision: that the best furniture in the world can be designed and crafted in America.
Tiered Levels for Fabricators:
Our production system is structured around a tiered system per department. For the fabrication department, the tiers are as follows:
1. Apprentice; wage range of $14-16/hour
2. Level 1; wage range of $16-21/hour
3. Level 2; wage range of $21-25/hour
4. Level 3; wage range of $25-30/hour
Overtime (paid at 1.5x) is occasionally required.
Standard Work Schedule is 4/10hr days, Monday-Thursday (3-day weekend is standard).
We are currently hiring Level 1, 2 and 3 Fabricators. Some examples of skills required for each tier:
Level 1 – You have a basic understanding of solid wood and grain direction, have experience with basic woodworking machines (table saws, Jointers, Planers, Band saws) and strong work ethic. You may not have any professional experience working in a cabinet shop but you are eager to learn the trade of Furniture Making. Or you may have worked in a cabinet shop/wood shop but were not directly responsible for entire pieces or projects
Level 2 – You have foundational experience with cabinet making and/or furniture making techniques. You have worked in a professional shop with throughput demands requiring work to be completed on-time and to quality standards. You have extensive experience with more advanced woodworking machines such as Sliding Table Saws, Straight-line Rip Saws and Shapers. You may have been part of a team, but you are capable of being directly responsible for completing pieces and projects.
Level 3 – You have extensive experience with cabinet making and/or furniture making techniques. You have worked in a professional shop with throughput demands requiring work to be completed on-time and to quality standards. You may have been part of a team, but you are capable of being directly responsible for completing pieces and projects. You have an understanding of cost/value and apply your skills to ensure your department achieves its goal. You can problem solve any woodworking challenge. You have the ability to learn new skills quickly with the highest degree of success.
The Candidate
Your experience might include:
- Solid wood and veneer selection appropriate for project
- Prepping/milling lumber
- Working with veneer and veneered sheet goods
- Cutting/Drilling/Tapping brass accent components
- Reading shop drawings
- Surface preparation
- Cutting to knife line
- Maintaining tight tolerance on related parts
- Foundational understanding of each part of the furniture making process and its value
