Job Description:
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, repair, retrofitting, deinstallation, and training of Heller ovens. The role requires providing high-level technical support, including troubleshooting complex system issues, performing in-depth diagnostics, and offering tailored solutions to ensure optimal system performance and reliability for customers. This involves analyzing technical problems, identifying root causes, and implementing effective repairs or adjustments to maximize equipment uptime. The engineer will also work closely with customers to ensure that all systems are running efficiently, meeting operational standards, and delivering long-term reliability. The ideal candidate should be a US citizen or permanent resident.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work directly with customers and internal teams to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently at all customer sites.
- Generate accurate and detailed documentation, including machine logs, test reports and work instructions.
- Perform root cause failure analysis on sub-systems, circuits, and components in a timely manner.
- Perform new machine installations, de-installations, and field upgrades at all customer sites.
- Collaborate in new product development by providing serviceability requirements and design feedback.
- Conduct on-site technical training for customers, ensuring comprehensive understanding of equipment operation.
- Support logistics activities (RMAs, FAs, inventory checks, shipping, etc.) at local offices and customer sites.
- Offer technical applications support to end users.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field; Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with experience in root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 7-step or 8D).
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel up to 50% within the US and occasionally internationally to support global customers.
- Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and perform tasks involving stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
- Ability to get full face respirator certified and perform machine actions in PPE (respirator, hazmat suit, gloves, etc.).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with reflow ovens and related SMT/semiconductor equipment.
- Strong ability to read and follow schematics (electrical, pneumatics, etc.) to troubleshoot machine related issues.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
