The Benefits Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, administering, and maintaining employee benefits programs that are equitable, cost-effective, and comply with legal requirements. This position ensures programs meet employee needs while aligning with the organization's objectives, culture, and philosophy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with employees to understand needs and tailor benefits packages to their positions
- Recommend benefits programs to management by studying employee requirements, trends, and developments in benefits offered by other organizations
- Support management's decision-making process by analyzing benefit options and predicting future costs
- Plan and coordinate the company's compensation plans and benefit packages
- Monitor and research compensation and benefits trends
- Ensure compensation and benefits plans are cost-effective and competitive
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements
- Supply employees with documents related to enrolling, maintaining, and understanding their benefits coverage
- Develop and administer wellness programs that promote employee health and well-being
- Inform employees of benefit usage by preparing and distributing benefit reports
- Administer the organization's benefits programs (retirement plans, leave policies, wellness programs, insurance policies, etc.)
- Resolve employee questions and problems by interpreting benefit policies and procedures
- Report to management all data on disbursement and enrollment in programs
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or working toward certification
- 3-5 years of experience in benefits administration or related HR roles
- Experience administering self-insured health benefit plans for large organizations (3,500 employees)
- Knowledge of building compensation packages and bonus programs for various departments and seniority levels
- Good knowledge of labor legislation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong people and project management skills
- Proficiency with HRIS and benefits management systems
- Experience with benefits vendors and third-party administrators
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Data analysis and reporting skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Strong negotiation skills for working with benefits providers
- Full-time position, in office
- May require occasional travel to other company locations
- May require attendance at benefits-related conferences and training sessions
