Role: Apigee/API Gateway Engineer
Location - Austin, TX.
The Apigee / API Gateway Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, securing, deploying, and operating APIs
using Google Apigee (Apigee X / Edge) as part of an enterprise integration and digital transformation program.
The role supports API lifecycle management, platform reliability, security enforcement, and CI/CD automation in a cloud or hybrid environment.
Key Responsibilities:
API Design & Development
Design, develop, and maintain API proxies, shared flows, products, and apps using Apigee.
Implement RESTful APIs and integrate them with backend services (microservices, legacy systems).
Security & Governance
Implement API security policies including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, mTLS, and rate limiting.
Enforce enterprise API standards, governance models, and compliance requirements.
Manage KVMs, keystores, certificates, and secrets securely
Platform Operations:
Deploy and manage Apigee X / Edge across environments
Monitor API traffic using analytics; troubleshoot latency, errors, and throughput issues.
CI/CD & Automation:
Implement CI/CD pipelines for Apigee using Git, Jenkins, Terraform, or similar tools.
Automate deployments, configuration management, and environment promotion.
Collaboration & Delivery:
Work closely with application teams, architects, security, and DevOps stakeholders.
Assist application teams migrating APIs to Apigee or modernizing legacy interfaces.
Create and maintain API documentation
Required Skills & Experience:
Core Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Google Apigee (Edge, X, or Hybrid).
Solid understanding of REST, HTTP, JSON, XML, SOAP standards.
Experience creating API policies, shared flows, flow hooks, and analytics.
Security & Identity:
Hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, Basic Auth, and SSO concepts.
Experience with Google Cloud Platform and AWS environments.
Proficiency in tools like Insomnia, Splunk, Git.
Programming & Scripting:
Working knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Python, or Bash for policies and automation.
Ability to troubleshoot at both API proxy and infrastructure levels.
Preferred Qualifications
Apigee certification (Edge or Apigee X).
Experience with API migration (legacy gateway → Apigee).
Exposure to enterprise API governance models and multi-team platforms
