Spiral Bevel Grinding

Northstar Aerospace, now part of Avio Aero - a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading independent manufacturer of components and assemblies to the global Aerospace industry. Our principal products include gears and transmissions, accessory gearbox assemblies, rotorcraft drive systems, and other machined and fabricated parts for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. We also provide maintenance and repair and overhaul (MRO) on these platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

• Initiative and integrity:  Diversified Spiral Bevel gear sets involving complicated setups.  Requires the ability to produce satisfactory gear sets working from a calculated summary which has never been developed on a machine including spread blade or duplex methods on reversible, hypoid or angular gears and curvic clutches.  Set up and operate testing machine.  Exercise care to prevent burning, operate multiple machines.  True cutters as necessary. • Responsibility:  Careless operation, setups or adjustments may result in probable damage to equipment seldom over $500.00.  Carless operation, setups, adjustments, and checking could result in damage but seldom over $200.00 in any one instance or lot.  Machine well-guarded, only reasonable care need to be exercised to prevent injury to others.  Responsible for own work. • Working conditions:  Exposure of a minor degree to coolants, grease, chips, paint, and noise; clean shop conditions. (Deg. 2/20)

• Unavoidable hazards:  May crush hand or foot when handling arbors, etc.; finger or hand injuries from cutters, wheels and burrs. (Deg. 3/15)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Physical demands:  Sustained physical effort handling light to average weight material.  Usually short cycle work requiring continuous activity. (Deg. 3/30)

• Mental or visual demand:  Must concentrate mental and visual attention closely in planning, making setups and testing work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED    

• Education Requirements:  Read and interpret complicated prints and drawings. Use decimals, fractions, trigonometry and shop mathematics.  Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.  Requires knowledge of Spiral Bevel Gear grinding, generators, and testing equivalent to 4 years high school and 3 to 4 years trades training. • Experience Required:  Over 5 years on wide variety of Spiral Bevel gear work. (Deg. 5/110)
