Production Support Chemist
Helicon Chemical Company, a materials science company creating cutting-edge products for aerospace, defense, and energy, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Production Support Chemist to support and conduct interdisciplinary research in the fields of polymer and materials chemistry and nanoscience.
The Production Support Chemist will play a key role within a fast-paced hands-on industrial environment. This position requires a deep understanding of technical problem-solving, as well as a strong commitment to safety and productivity. You will be responsible for laboratory support of our industrial scale-up processes and products while solving complex technical challenges in the fields of energetics and polymer science.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the buildout of a new process support and testing laboratory.
- Perform experimental execution and analysis, ensuring robust data collection and successful project outcomes while ensuring high productivity, quality, and safety.
- Carry out air sensitive material synthesis using Schlenk techniques.
- Apply scientific principles to safely process energetic materials for screening, product development, or improvement.
- Operate and manage air-free chemistry processes, including the use of gloveboxes, air-free reactors, pressurized reactors, and specialized air-free glassware setups.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas is preferred: organic chemistry and synthesis or polymer chemistry, materials characterization, and air free chemical synthesis.
- Hands-on experience in small molecule, nanoparticle, and polymer synthesis and analytical techniques is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a 4-year degree in Chemistry or related field with experience in polymers, nanoscience, or energetics preferred.
- Strong aptitude in chemical science, polymer science, analytical science, and/or physical property analysis.
- Hands-on experience with research & development and/or production support role.
- Must be an exclusive U.S. citizen
