What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Support Assistant position at Helen Quail?
This is an opportunity for a caring and relatable individual to provide one-to-one support to a wonderful, quiet 20 year old young man who is on the autism spectrum.
We are looking for someone sensitive and caring who will partner in his empowerment, building his confidence and skill range. He tends to be shy and quiet , though opens up when comfortable.
The focus is primarily to consolidate and expand his daily living skills and activities, especially nutritional meals and social skills.
Note - he is well able to take care of personal hygiene and self-care.
Hours are flexible and can be discussed ranging from 10 - 15 weekly, ideally a few hours most days. Your own transport helps and will be reimbursed for in- work duties.
```Duties```
- Assist with preparing healthy meals daily and continuing to encourage client’s involvement and skill development.
- Assist with preparing an appropriate grocery shopping list.
- support client in passing his driving throery test and progressing to learning to drive
- Developing client’s independence and social and communication skills. Continuing to encourage his assertive and self-advocacy skills.
- Client benefits from structured reminders and direct assistance if required to develop a good cleaning and hygiene routine in his room and storing his clothing. This includes supporting his participation in household tasks and common cleaning chores.
- Consistent and reliable support in developing the client's independence and building his confidence.
· Assistance with scheduling and attending necessary medical, or other essential appointments.
· Co-ordinate with parent and other support workers through regular and effective communication. A brief weekly or bi-weekly written update is helpful.
· Any left over hours can support social skills and activities.
- Handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism.
```Qualifications```
- Experience in and knowledge of ASD and learning challenges is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Personal Assistant, Carer or in a similar role is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
