What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Advisor (CPA) position at Heirloom Tax Solutions?
Business & High-Net-Worth Individuals
We are seeking an experienced CPA to join our growing high-net-worth and advanced tax advisory practice as a Senior Tax Advisor. This role is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who wants to move beyond traditional tax preparation and become a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients.
Working closely with our Tax Director and broader advisory team, you'll be responsible for complex tax compliance, research, and planning while developing strong relationships with high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, business owners, and their families.
Why Join Heirloom?
Heirloom isn't just building a tax practice - we're building the future of integrated wealth and tax advisory.
As the tax division of a premier wealth management firm with more than $1 billion in assets under management, Heirloom sits at the intersection of tax strategy and wealth preservation for high-net-worth families, entrepreneurs, and business owners.
Our approach goes well beyond preparing tax returns. We believe the greatest value comes from bringing tax planning and tax compliance together. Our tax professionals work alongside wealth advisors throughout the year to identify planning opportunities, evaluate strategies before decisions are made, and ensure those strategies are properly reflected in our clients' tax filings.
You'll join an established and growing practice with a strong client base, committed leadership, modern technology, and significant opportunity for professional growth. For a CPA who wants exposure to sophisticated clients and advanced planning while developing into a true tax advisor, this is an opportunity to build something meaningful.
What You'll Do
· Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, businesses, partnerships, trusts, and related entities.
· Work directly with clients to understand their tax situations, answer questions, and develop trusted long-term relationships.
· Identify proactive tax planning opportunities that align with clients' broader financial and wealth management goals.
· Partner with the firm's financial advisors to help deliver integrated tax and wealth strategies.
· Research complex and evolving tax issues and apply technical guidance to client-specific situations.
· Prepare responses to IRS and state taxing authority notices and assist clients with tax-related inquiries.
· Review client information for accuracy, completeness, and potential planning opportunities.
· Support year-round tax planning and projections, not simply annual tax return preparation.
· Work closely with the Tax Director to maintain strong quality-control standards and efficient workflows.
· Contribute ideas and expertise as we continue to develop and scale the Heirloom tax practice.
· Support and mentor less-experienced tax professionals as the team grows.
· Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and client service.
What Makes You a Great Fit
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
· Active CPA license required.
· 4 years of progressive tax experience, preferably within public accounting or a high-net-worth tax practice.
· Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing complex individual income tax returns.
· Experience with business, partnership, S corporation, and trust returns strongly preferred.
· Proven experience serving high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and/or closely held business owners.
· Comprehensive understanding of federal and state tax law with the ability to research and apply technical tax guidance.
· Experience preparing responses to IRS and state tax notices.
· Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to precise and accurate work.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex tax concepts for clients and colleagues.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
· Flexibility to manage increased workloads during tax filing seasons.
· Experience with professional tax compliance and workflow software; Lacerte or CCH experience is a plus.
· Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related discipline is a plus.
· A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset - you want to help build and improve, not simply maintain.
Compensation, Perks & Benefits
· Competitive base salary of $90,000-$135,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
· Annual performance bonus (target of 10%)
· Medical benefits and employer paid dental, vision, disability/life.
