About the Role

Heirloom Property Management is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to help oversee the financial accuracy, reporting, and accounting processes of multiple business units across our residential, vacation, construction and portfolio entities.

This is a hands-on, senior-level accounting position for someone who takes pride in getting the details right, understands the importance of strong financial controls, and can confidently review financial information to ensure accuracy and consistency. This position will also provide support to our Land Companies daily finance and operational documentation needs.

Working closely with our Director of Accounting, this individual will provide an important layer of financial oversight, reviewing account activity, identifying and correcting discrepancies, ensuring accounting standards are followed, and helping strengthen processes across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, an analytical mindset, and the ability to see both the details and the bigger financial picture. We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their responsibilities, works well with others, and enjoys finding practical ways to improve accounting accuracy and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Review financial statements for assigned business units to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Oversee the accuracy of balance sheet accounts, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Review accounting transactions and financial records to identify errors, discrepancies, or irregularities and make necessary correcting journal entries.
  • Communicate identified errors and corrections directly with the team member responsible for the original work, helping them understand the issue and prevent similar errors in the future.
  • Monitor accounting practices and internal controls to ensure consistency, compliance, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Assist with budget development, financial monitoring, and analysis of variances.
  • Partner with the Director of Accounting to identify opportunities for improving financial reporting, accounting processes, and internal controls.
  • Help develop, document, and maintain accounting procedures that support accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across business units.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and serve as a resource to accounting team members on complex transactions, reconciliations, and reporting questions.
  • Coordinate with external accounting firms on tax preparation, audits, and other financial matters as needed.
  • Work with operational leaders to resolve accounting issues, improve processes, and strengthen coordination between accounting and operations, and provide direct support required and immediate documentation demands.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities to ensure financial information is complete and accurate.
  • Perform additional accounting and financial reporting responsibilities as needed.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, general ledger management, and account reconciliations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, complete, and well-documented financial records.
  • Ability to independently review financial information, recognize discrepancies, and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound professional judgment.
  • A structured, organized approach to accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to address accounting errors constructively, explain corrections, and help others improve the accuracy of their work.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and maintain high accounting standards without direct supervisory authority.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with the Director of Accounting and other team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including significant experience with financial reporting, general ledger oversight, reconciliations, and financial statement accuracy.
  • Experience in construction, real estate, or property management preferred.
  • Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and web-based business software.
  • Experience with Contractor Foreman,  Red Team,  AppFolio and Streamline would be a plus.
