Duties
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Perform detailed variance analysis, with emphasis on labor cost performance
- Provide actionable financial insights to leadership and operations teams
- Track burdened labor rates and labor productivity by trade and classification
- Oversee progress billing (AIA or equivalent) and ensure alignment with contract terms
- Manage accounts receivable, collections, and retainage
- Ensure compliance with percentage-of-completion accounting
- Track bonding, and lien requirements
- Track commitments vs. actual costs
- Oversee vendor payments and resolve discrepancies
- Forecast and manage project and company cash flow
- Implement and enforce strong internal financial controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company financial policies
- Manage and optimize ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intaact, SCM)
- Partner with owner, superintendents and supporting departments
- Provide insight into labor efficiency across plumbing, HVAC, and sheet metal scopes
- Present financial and operational performance to owner
- Support strategic planning, workforce planning, and growth initiatives
- Work directly with accounting and payroll staff
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7 years of accounting/finance experience, including construction accounting
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency
- Experience using Sage Intaact and Sage Construction Management
Preferred
- Experience in mechanical contracting (plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal)
- Experience supporting union, DOL, or third-party audits
