Hedgerow Preschool Co-Teacher
Hedgerow is a home-based preschool program in Santa Monica providing care for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. Founded in 1991, Hedgerow provides an enchanting and profoundly respectful environment where children can discover and grow together. Our program is inspired by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf, and Nature-based approaches. This role will be a co-teacher with the Preschool Director, caring for up to 12 children each day for 35-40 hours per week.
Preschool Teacher Job Responsibilities:
- Contributes to child learning, growth, and advancement for children from 18 months to 5 years old.
- Takes care of the children’s safety and welfare including hygiene, nutritional and sleep needs.
- Provides a rich and stimulating curriculum using developmentally appropriate approaches and coming up with creative activities and projects on a daily basis in order to meet the cognitive, physical and social-emotional needs of all of the children.
- Engages and assists the children in social and emotional development, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
- Keeps the environment clean and assists the children in taking responsibility for the space together.
- Engages with the parents/guardians and family members and is professional in all communication, be it in person or written.
- Takes on computer tasks including creating and sending documentation; generating documents; emails and using the internet proficiently.
Salary and Hours: Hours are somewhat flexible but will range between 35 to 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM. Hourly salary hiring range is $22 -$26 per hour.
Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
- At least two years teaching or childcare experience with young children.
- CPR/ First Aid and Mandated Reporter Training.
- Up to Date on vaccines including Flu and Covid immunizations and annual TB Testing.
- An eagerness to learn and a flexible approach to guiding young children of all backgrounds with love and joy.
- Proficient in microsoft office and google docs; able to create and update templates such as enrollment forms.
- A background in Emergent and Play-based Curriculum; Reggio-Emilia; Montessori and/or R.E.I is helpful.
- A willingness to participate in professional development when available.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
