This position requires diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and executing complex repairs to minimize equipment downtime. The mechanic will work closely with operations teams to prioritize repairs and maintain a reliable fleet that supports daily surface activities. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are paramount to prevent accidents and extend the lifespan of equipment. Ultimately, this role ensures that all surface mobile vehicles are in optimal working condition, contributing directly to the productivity and success of the organization’s surface operations across the United States. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic specializing in surface mobile equipment or heavy machinery. Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on pickups and tractors. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Preferred Qualifications: Certification from a recognized automotive or heavy equipment mechanic program (e.g., ASE certification). Experience working in industrial, mining, or surface operations environments. Familiarity with computerized diagnostic equipment and maintenance management systems. Ability to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment. Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to surface mobile equipment. Responsibilities: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on surface mobile pickups, tractors, and related equipment. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals. Replace or repair defective parts such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering components. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours. Collaborate with operations and safety teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize operational disruptions. Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies necessary for maintenance and repairs. Continuously update technical knowledge and skills to keep pace with evolving equipment technologies. Skills: The required skills enable the mechanic to effectively diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical and electrical issues, ensuring equipment reliability and safety. Proficiency in reading technical manuals and schematics allows for accurate troubleshooting and efficient repair work. Strong mechanical aptitude combined with hands-on experience supports the execution of preventive maintenance and complex repairs.
