What are the responsibilities and job description for the UG Lube Technician position at HECLA MINING CO.?
As our UG Lube Technician, you will perform lubrication services on equipment such as loaders, trucks, trailers, light vehicles, shaft, motor bearings and more at a remote mine to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on an island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every day organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives. The majority of your average workday consists of filling containers with specified lubricants and traveling to assigned locations to apply lubricants to components of mobile and fixed equipment. To thrive in this role, you have pertinent decision-making skills to inspect equipment, report maintenance issues, can adapt work plans, and convey project statuses to others. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently, identify, and resolve problems in a timely manner.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
- You will perform preventative maintenance on mechanical and mobile equipment.
- You will maintain lube systems, as well as monitor and maintain bulk lube and fuel supplies at various locations.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisors.
- Clean machines, sweep vehicle floors, and transport stock.
- Operate mobile equipment in order to ensure proper lubrication.
- Prepares appropriate paperwork and reports relating to lubrication activities, machinery problems, and work area inspections. Complies with all company and regulatory guidelines.
- You have a knack for productive communication, cooperation, productivity, initiative, creativity, dependability. The position requires a high degree of positive interaction with all employees.
- 2 yrs mechanical experience (heavy diesel) minimum
- Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before work starts. You will promote and personally observe safety procedures.
