Position Summary:

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech and language services to students under the direct and ongoing supervision of a certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). This position also works under the general direction of the Director of Educational Services. The SLPA assists in implementing IEP-related services and activities for students, in accordance with Connecticut State Department of Education guidelines and district practices.

General:

This position provides an opportunity to support elementary students as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant within Hebron Public Schools. Working with an elementary caseload, this onsite role in Hebron is ideal for individuals committed to supporting student communication development in a school-based setting. Working in close partnership with the district’s Speech-Language Pathologists, the SLPA supports students expressive, receptive, and articulation development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implement speech and language therapy activities and interventions as directed by the supervising SLP
  • Provide direct support to students in individual and small group settings, consistent with IEP and 504 goals
  • Assist the SLP in preparing materials and activities for therapy sessions
  • Collect and maintain data on student performance and progress toward individualized goals
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, staff, and families to support student communication needs
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with district procedures and state/federal regulations
  • Support generalization of communication skills across classroom and school environments

· Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings, student support team and any other meetings representing assigned students

· Engage in ongoing professional development and/or training to maintain subject matter knowledge and explore best practices

· Comply with all Federal and State special education statutes and regulations pertaining to identified students; ensure implementation of all mandated timelines

· Establish and maintain on-going, informative and open communication with parents/guardians regarding students; establish and maintain positive rapport with students

· Maintain confidentiality regarding personal/student and family information

· Implement school related duties such as student supervision, appropriate record-keeping tasks and other duties consistent with professional requirements and expectations

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising SLP or administration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an ASHA-accredited university, and minimum 1 years speech-language pathology experience required
  • Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (C-SLPA)
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in educational settings preferred
  • Ability to work onsite in the school environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical Requirements:

Must have the physical ability to execute the full performance of duties for the position, including but not limited to: reaching, some lifting, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling.
