About Hebrew Public

Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community.

Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning.

Why PHP?

As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public teachers and staff have the opportunity to bring that mission to life with students from over 37 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day.

PHP is rooted in the belief that all students deserve rigorous academics, strong relationships, and access to a globally minded education that expands what they see as possible for themselves. For educators who want their work to matter beyond the classroom walls, PHP offers a place to help close opportunity gaps while nurturing students academically, socially, and culturally.

You don’t need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a driven, student-centered Support Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The Support Teacher plays an essential role in helping students feel successful, supported, and connected throughout the school day.

The Support Teacher will follow a daily schedule and primarily partner with two classroom teachers. Within those classrooms, they will provide academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support, lead small-group ELA instruction, reinforce grade-level learning, and help maintain strong classroom routines and expectations.

In addition to classroom responsibilities, the Support Teacher will complete an assigned staff duty, typically lunch or recess coverage, and may provide additional support during arrival, dismissal, transitions, or other parts of the school day.

The ideal candidate builds strong relationships with students, follows established systems consistently, communicates proactively with their partner teachers, and responds calmly and thoughtfully to challenges. This is a strong opportunity for someone interested in developing their instructional skills and potentially pursuing a pathway toward teacher certification.

What you’ll do

  • Follow a consistent daily schedule and report on time to assigned classrooms, meetings, and duties.
  • Primarily support two classroom teachers with instruction, classroom routines, and student needs.
  • Lead small-group ELA instruction using provided lesson plans, materials, and student data.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations, school-wide behavior systems, and positive student routines.
  • Support students during transitions and help maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Complete an assigned staff duty, including either lunch or recess coverage.
  • Collaborate with teachers and student-support staff to monitor and communicate student progress, needs, and concerns.
  • Participate in team meetings, coaching, professional development, and feedback conversations.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Model Hebrew Public’s OLAM values: outstanding problem-solving, continuous learning, making a difference, and intentional communication.
  • Follow the established daily schedule and arrive on time to all classroom assignments, meetings, transitions, and staff duties.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and actively seek and apply feedback to improve practice.
  • Align your work with school-wide priorities and strategic initiatives.

Who you are

  • Deep belief in the limitless potential of all students and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens.
  • Hold an associate degree from an accredited institution; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working directly with school-aged children in a school, after-school program, preschool, summer camp, or similar youth-serving setting is preferred.
  • Interested in developing your skills as an educator. Candidates interested in pursuing a teaching career are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working in urban school communities is preferred.

Career Development and Support

At PHP, teachers are not expected to grow alone. We invest in educator development through:

  • On-site team of Climate staff and Social Workers to support students and families
  • Instructional coaching and feedback cycles, intellectual preparation and collaborative planning, and professional development opportunities
  • Opportunities to learn alongside experienced classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and student-support staff.
  • Opportunities to apply for funds to support pathways towards teacher certification.
  • University partnerships and individualized guidance for employees pursuing Pennsylvania teacher certification.

Compensation

Hebrew Public’s compensation model, SuRGE, Supporting, Rewarding, and Growing Educators, is designed to recognize the skill, commitment, and impact strong teachers bring to classrooms. After your first year, you may be eligible for 5% or 10% increases annually based on your classroom impact, without needing additional graduate coursework. SuRGE also includes built-in salary enhancements for valid Pennsylvania certification and hard-to-fill roles, offering a transparent and accessible path for educators to grow their compensation while doing meaningful work with students.
