Overview
Reporting into the Director, Total Rewards, the Benefits Specialist assists in the implementation, administration, compliance, and communication of employee benefit programs including health, wellness, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, 401(k), FMLA, PFML, COBRA, and voluntary offerings.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and provides education for assigned benefit plans including health and welfare, retirement, disability, life insurance, paid time off and other plans as assigned.
- Determines employee and dependent eligibility and benefit/deduction amounts. Act as liaison between employees and benefit vendors to resolve coverage/claim matters.
- Responsibility for monitoring any missed benefit deductions and the reconciliation and communication to employees impacted.
- Monitor and ensure timely completion of assigned plan compliance activities related to benefit plans, including regulatory filings and updates, notices, ACA mandates & reporting, plan audits, and employee benefit file transmissions to vendors, as required.
- Collaborates with the leadership to share trends and works with benefit vendors to provide resolution as needed.
- Participates in annual open enrollment process to identify enhancements and program offerings. In collaboration with Benefits Team, educates staff on benefit offerings, supports system updates, testing, communication plans and execution of the annual process.
- Identify and participate in projects and continuous improvement efforts for the department.
- Stay up-to-date on knowledge of benefit trends, legislation and compliance including ERISA, IRS, ACA, HIPPA, COBRA and other applicable regulations to ensure compliance of plans.
- Analyzes worker’s compensation and unemployment data trends and reports finings to HR Leadership as necessary.
- Assists the Benefits Team and HSL Leadership by providing guidance around federal, state requirements for worker’s compensation and unemployment.
- Works with The Director, Total Rewards regarding workers compensation claims and appropriate actions.
- Processes benefits changes in Bswift and ensures accuracy of the data.
- Assists with Benefit education calendar including financial wellness offerings.
- Responsible for the administration of worker’s compensation policies. Processes and maintains all worker’s compensation claims and regularly follows-up on active claims. Ensures compliance with OSHA by maintaining the proper documentation, submitting the necessary documentation to the carriers for processing, and posting the annual OSHA log at each facility.

- BS/BA degree preferred.
- 1 years’ experience in a Human Resources department strongly preferred.
- Exceptional customer service skills, communication, verbal, written, interpersonal skills required.
- Strong analytical capabilities, organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task functions using sound judgment required.
- Highest regard for confidentiality required.
- Proficient with Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
