POSITION SUMMARY:
While working with the CT Behavioral Health Hospital the nurse will provide care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates support for the Philosophy of the Nursing Department by adhering to policies, procedures and established standards of nursing practice.
- Health teaching to residents and their families.
- Executes procedures consistent with resident care and with the facilities Nursing Department Standard, Policy and Procedure
- Manual.
- Utilizes the nursing process to plan and provide resident care and to evaluate results of these interventions.
- Interacts appropriately with staff, physicians and other departments in a collegial relationship in order that resident and family needs are met.
- Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal relationships with resident, families and other members of the health care team.
- Documents and verbally communicates in a clear, concise effective format.
- Documents clearly and completely the various aspects of the nursing process on appropriate forms within required timeframes
- Makes appropriate decisions with information received from assessments
- Identifies and defines nursing diagnosis/nursing problems from assessment data.
- Demonstrates knowledge and applications of professional standards of care and nursing process in daily practice.
- Reviews physician orders on assigned residents prior to care and requests physician's orders when appropriate to plan of resident care.
- Initiates a resident/patient care plan (interim admission) Treatment plan (MTP) and full care plan on each assigned admission based on nursing assessment and identification of nursing problems within unit specific guidelines.
- Utilizes accepted techniques of infection control.
REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of approved School of Nursing
- Associates or BSN in nursing or health-related field preferred or actively pursuing
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut or approved Compact License.
- Current BCLS certification, ACLS preferred
- A minimum of (1) year experience in a behavioral health care setting and in gerontological nursing (preferred).
- Completion of mandatory in-service provided by the facility.
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of a wide range of psychosocial, cognitive and/or developmental disorders.
