Job Description
Job Title: Director of Transportation
Department: District Support Services
Reports to: Director of Support Services
Directly Supervises: Transportation department personnel
FLSA: Exempt
Job Summary: Supervise the district transportation program
Essential Duties:
Make personnel recommendations to the Superintendent to adequately staff the transportation program
Schedule school buses and drivers for all school events
Coordinate the purchase, allocation, storage, inventory and care of all transportation equipment of the school district
Make all route assignments and schedule all bus drivers
Plan and forecast the ongoing operation of the transportation program
Develop and implement a plan for inspection and maintenance of transportation equipment
Develop and implement bus instructional programs as required by state rules and regulations
Work with administrators, teachers, drivers, students, parents, and various public agencies to improve the quality of the school transportation system
Investigate accidents, road failures, and other problems associated with the transportation program
Oversee random drug testing of bus drivers as required by law
Provide required annual training for bus drivers
Prepare and maintain required transportation records and reports
Prepare bid documents and specifications for the purchase/procurement of all supplies and materials
Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse as a Mandated Reporter
Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies
Other Duties: as assigned by superintendent or designee
Qualifications: an Arkansas Class B Commercial Drivers’ License w/ School Bus Passenger Endorsement is required; air brakes endorsement is required
Knowledge and Skills Required: experience in school transportation is preferred; an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and the programs associated with the position
Education: high school diploma or GED required; college or technical school degree preferred
Other Expectations: Successful completion of pre-employment background checks; Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, staff, and the general public; able to carry on normal conversation and communicate by portable radio
