Position Summary
The Driver & Program Aide is responsible for safely transporting participants to and from the center and providing non-medical supportive services during program hours. This position plays a vital role in participant safety, engagement, and daily operations of the center under the supervision of the Program Director, Registered Nurse (RN), and interdisciplinary team.
A. Qualifications
The Driver & Program Aide must meet all applicable California Title 22 and CBAS certification requirements, including:
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record acceptable to the center’s insurance carrier.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional driving experience preferred, especially in senior or medical transportation.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- TB clearance not more than twelve (12) months prior to hire or within seven (7) days of employment.
- Pre-employment health examination signed by a physician verifying physical ability to perform job duties.
- Criminal background clearance as required by the California Department of Social Services (DOJ/FBI Live Scan).
- Ability to safely assist frail elderly and disabled adults, including lifting, transferring, and mobility support.
- Ability to demonstrate competence through work history and/or verifiable references.
- Must be reliable, punctual, professional, and compassionate.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; bilingual preferred.
- Willingness to comply with HIPAA, infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness policies.
B. Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Duties
- Safely transport participants to and from the ADHC center in accordance with assigned schedules.
- Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and report maintenance issues immediately.
- Provide door-to-door assistance, including safe boarding and exiting of participants.
- Secure participants using appropriate wheelchair tie-downs and safety restraints.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and documentation daily.
- Follow all state driving laws, center transportation policies, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary vehicle environment at all times.
Program Aide Duties (During Program Hours)
- Assist with and support group activities, recreational programs, and social engagement.
- Provide non-medical personal care services within scope of training and as indicated in the participant’s care plan, under RN supervision.
- Assist with physical and occupational therapy maintenance exercises when trained by licensed therapists and properly document services.
- Assist with meal preparation, distribution, and feeding as required.
- Escort and assist participants with mobility, fall prevention, and safety monitoring.
- Support appointment scheduling and coordination as assigned.
- Accurately document services provided on the same day.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in participant areas.
- Provide translation assistance when needed (if bilingual).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator, Program Director, RN, or immediate supervisor.
- Report to the center nurse or activity coordinator based on daily assignment.
Training & Compliance
- Must remain knowledgeable of ADHC/CBAS laws, regulations, and policies.
- Participation in mandatory in-service training and continuing education is required.
- Full compliance with participant rights, confidentiality, and infection control standards is mandatory.
