Position Summary
Heathwood Hall is seeking a dynamic educator to be the leader of our digital Makerspace and a member of our Middle and Upper School faculty. The Makerspace Coordinator is an exciting position that allows for working with students in Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, though the primary responsibilities are with 7-12th grade students. The Makerspace Coordinator has leadership over our growing program while maintaining and managing the physical space and the associated equipment. The right candidate will be a school person who is a mission and culture fit for our school. Opportunities for additional revenue through our summer programs are also available.

Essential Functions
- Teach an array of Middle and Upper School makerspace and computer science courses as assigned.
- Design a developmentally appropriate curriculum and plan for a well-articulated plan of teaching and assessing.
- Maintain an engaged classroom environment to support student learning.
- Sustain frequent contact with students and parents about student performance and behavior.
- Provide leadership and oversight to our growing makerspace program, working with the academic divisions to increase opportunities for students and teachers to use this space.
- Maintain the equipment and supplies necessary to run the makerspace, working in collaboration with the division heads.
- Support our robotics club.
- Pursue professional development opportunities.
- Be willing to help plan and chaperone weeklong Winterim experiences.
- Serve on Exhibition Committees, Upper School Committees and school-wide committees as necessary.
- Attend and support after-school activities and programs (e.g. concerts, theater and class programs).
- Support the School's Episcopal identity and practices.
- Support the School's commitment to diversity and multicultural education.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across divisions.
- Complete required H.R. training each year (CPR, first aid, mandatory reporting, handling of hazardous materials, etc.)
- A passion for working with teenagers and a thorough understanding of the specific developmental needs of young people aged 12-18.
- An entrepreneurial spirit, looking for opportunities to increase the visibility of the makerspace and its work with students.
- Energy, empathy, flexibility, and collaboration.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- The ability to use a variety of assessment techniques and to demonstrate strong instructional and classroom-management skills.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems, the Google Suite of tools, and a variety of technological tools appropriate to a MakerSpace.
- Understanding of pedagogy and experiential learning practices.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, graphic arts, or related field required; master's degree preferred.
- Teaching experience required; experience in secondary education preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD, JAVA, Python, and application design, along with the ability to teach students how to code and use computer software effectively. Experience in schools is preferred.
- Ability to work with an array of equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and vinyl cutters required along with the ability to teach students how to use these machines.
- Expansive school campus with 122 acres, must be able to travel between buildings independently.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending may be required throughout the day at various intervals
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
