About Our Firm
Heather A. Peterson CPA, PLLC is a relationship-driven accounting firm specializing in individual taxation, estates and trusts, and tax planning for individuals and families.
Located in downtown Schenectady, we are a close-knit team of professionals who take pride in delivering exceptional work while building meaningful relationships with our clients.
Our philosophy is simple: Making the Complex Clear.
We believe you can do serious professional work, enjoy the people you work with, and have a fulfilling life outside the office.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced tax professional with strong individual income tax preparation skills to become an important part of our team.
During tax season, our practice handles a substantial volume of individual, estate, and trust income tax returns. We need someone who can work independently, manage deadlines, and consistently produce accurate, high-quality returns.
Outside of tax season, our work includes tax planning, estate and trust matters, and a variety of client advisory services. Depending on your interests and experience, there will be opportunities to expand your technical knowledge and take on additional responsibilities.
You will work alongside experienced CPAs in a collaborative environment where questions are encouraged, ideas are welcomed, and everyone takes pride in getting the work done right.
What We’re Looking For
· Minimum three years of public accounting experience, primarily in tax preparation.
· Strong individual federal and state income tax preparation skills.
· Ability to prepare moderately complex individual returns independently.
· CPA or EA designation preferred, but not required.
· Estate, trust, partnership, and S corporation tax experience is a plus.
· Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
· Comfortable communicating directly with clients.
· Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines, including additional hours during tax season.
Technical ability is important, but so is character. We value intelligent, curious, approachable professionals who take personal responsibility for their work, communicate clearly, and genuinely care about the people they serve.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $80,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
· SIMPLE IRA with 3% employer match
· Health, dental, and vision insurance options with employer stipend
· Life insurance
· Flexible spending and dependent care benefits
