Job Description:
Direct Support Professional (DSP): As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) you will closely with the agency and the client to empower individuals with mental health challenges and/or developmental disabilities to live as independently and fully as possible within their communities. The role is focused on teaching and supporting, rather than just caregiving. DSPs act as a mentor, coach, and advocate, helping individuals to achieve personal goals and build a more fulfilling life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and supervision: Assist individuals with daily living activities, which may include personal hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, and transportation. The goal is to teach and support independence in these tasks.
- Implement personalized care and support plans: Follow a detailed, person-centered plan that outlines the individual's specific needs, goals, and desired outcomes.
- Foster skill development: Teach and reinforce life skills in areas such as budgeting, healthy eating, medication management, social skills, and community engagement.
- Promote community integration: Help individuals participate in community activities, build social connections, and explore recreational and educational opportunities.
- Provide emotional and behavioral support: Be a positive role model and offer encouragement, guidance, and assistance in managing emotions and behaviors. This may involve using therapeutic intervention techniques and crisis prevention strategies as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation: Complete daily notes, progress reports, and other required records to track an individual's progress and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Ensure health and safety: Monitor and report any changes in an individual's physical or mental health, administer medications as prescribed (with proper training), and create a safe and healthy living environment.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is the minimum requirement.
- Experience: While some positions may be entry-level, many require at least one year of professional or personal experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses
Certifications:
- CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid certification are required.
- Additional qualifications as necessary deemed by the nature of the role.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record may be necessary for transporting individuals.
- The ability to pass a background check and drug screening is required.

All pay rates are determined by level of certification.
