What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Controls Engineer position at Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration?
Location: Stone Mountain, GA (This position 100% onsite.)
The Sr. Controls Engineer is an electrical, electronic and electromechanical expert with broad experience in each area. Will lead and oversee various activities related to the responsibilities outlined. Interaction will be with the New Product Introduction, Sustaining, Engineer-to-Order, Cold Storage and Lab teams within Engineering, with all other departments in the company, and with customers. Will participate on project teams as the controls and electrical expert on multiple projects. Will be the Heatcraft representative on industry trade association committees, safety agency committees and other trade associations and committees as appropriate and/or desired. Will interact heavily with the Electronics and Controls group at PD&R (corporate Product Development and Research) and at LITC (Lennox India Technology Center) in Chennai, India.
- Specify, develop and qualify embedded electronic controls and strategies for Refrigeration systems from ideation to the launch
- Specify and develop control algorithms for programmable logic controls and embedded controls
- Support NPI and sustaining teams with controls and electrical expertise
- Execute selected custom requests related to electronic and mechanical controls
- Provide technical controls support for sales and field services team
- Support Lab where controls, metrology, instrumentation and electrical expertise is needed
- Hands-on experience with programming, troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with electrical and controls system
- Experience in developing/implementing world-class tools for enhanced electrical and controls wiring schematics using embedded programming and CAD design softwares
- Liaison between lab and Engineering group, and leading the team in navigating through testing challenges, brainstorming and implementation of solutions for future product testing in the lab.
- Coordinates the efforts of engineers, CAD designers and, technical support staff.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles, involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Expected to learn and follow company procedures and standards.
- Must be self-motivated and able to drive projects to completion.
- Expected to navigate SAP business system to mine product information.
- Expected to learn product families.
- Expected to review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
- Will manage multiple projects/tasks including schedule and goal management.
- Will lead engineering tasks for multi-stage product development projects.
- Document best practices for use by peers.
- Utilize engineering tools/calculations to complete tasks.
- Interpret safety and performance standards.
- Expected to select components for electro-mechanical and electronic control systems.
- Travel 5-10%.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
In order to be successful in this role, you will need to have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred with 7 years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years on each of the following:
- Controls design and/or development at the circuit board and design level.
- Electrical power hands-on understanding
- Signal and power level measurements (power analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter at a
- minimum)
- Electronic and electromechanical component selection and qualification
- Electrical and wiring diagram
- Controls specification generation
- Electrical motor application, and qualification
- Experience working with Refrigeration and HVAC controls
- Strong wiring and electrical CAD software experience
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to prioritize and work on several projects at the same time and to adhere to project schedules
- Ability to work with component suppliers
- Ability to work on cross functional teams
- Flexible and able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Requires strong organizational skills
- Experience with SAP is a plus
WHAT WE OFFER
Compensation: This is a salaried exempt role. We are considering candidates at Levels III through V for this position. The salary range is approximately $102,000 to $186,000 and will be based on the individual’s experience, education, and qualifications. Factors that may affect starting salary include geography/market and the skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employees in this role are also eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the terms of the Company’s applicable plan. Employees in this role are not eligible for overtime.
