What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Aide position at HEARTSHARE HUMAN SERVICES OF NEW YORK?
We are thrilled to invite a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Aide to join our educational team! We’re looking for a candidate who will support our teachers in creating a warm, nurturing, and enriching environment for young learners, especially in our preschool programs. In this role, you’ll work closely with children, including those with special needs, providing individualized attention and engaging activities that promote their development. As a Teacher Aide, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children in our Special Education Program by encouraging growth in social, emotional, physical, and cognitive areas.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:

Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Teacher, which includes lesson plans

Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies

Supervise the classroom when the Teacher is out of the room

Help with the general housekeeping tasks

Assis the Teacher in other ways as requested

Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times

Treat all children with dignity and respect
-
Attend all staff meetings and recommend training programs and conferences

Participate in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education

Assist Lead Teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children enrolled at the Center

Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom

Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene, change diapers and assist with toilet training

Supervise all activities to always ensure safety
-
Report to Lead Teacher any problem that may occur with the children

Observe, record, and report on the behavior of individual children as assigned

Become familiar with and follow NAEYC’s Code of Ethics

Attend parent group and Center functions
-
Required: High school diploma or GED
-
Preferred: Associate’s degree or experience in special education or childcare

A love for working with children of all abilities
-
Patience, empathy, and strong teamwork skills
-
Willingness to support students physically (walking, bending, lifting, assisting mobility, and behavior support as needed)
