Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc., a member-owned electric utility powering rural lifestyles for more than 8,000 members throughout southeast Kansas, is seeking a Member Service Technician (MST) to play a crucial role in the safe operation and maintenance of our electric system.
We are open to applicants interested in working out of our Fort Scott, Gas, or Mound City locations. This position calls for a self-motivated individual, as they will spend most of their time out in the field.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform meter installations, readings, and maintenance for residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
- Conduct system patrols, reporting and documenting necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Handle minor electrical maintenance of outdoor boxes and receptacles.
- Assist with the maintenance and equipment installations in substations.
- Perform locates and inspections on underground facilities.
- Read maps and prepare required reports.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; basic courses in electricity are desirable.
- Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
- Knowledge of electric distribution system maintenance and operation.
- Understanding of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
- Training in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, staking sheets, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Skills in arithmetic, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to handle several variables in standardized situations.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to build trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Strong attention to detail and good judgment.
- Capability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
- Professional demeanor with poise, tact, and diplomacy.
