Overview:

The Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for designing and implementing the delivery of comprehensive child nutrition services to the parents, families, children, and communities served by Heartland Head Start. This position is responsible for meeting Head Start Performance Standards, DCFS Licensing regulations, IDPH requirements, and in any federal, state, and local laws regarding child nutrition for children from birth to five years of age and pregnant women.

We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented School Nutrition Supervisor to lead our school meal programs with enthusiasm and professionalism. In this vital role, you will oversee the planning, preparation, and distribution of nutritious meals, ensuring compliance with all health and safety standards. Your leadership will foster a positive dining environment that promotes healthy eating habits and supports student well-being.

Duties:

  • Supervise daily meal service operations, including menu planning and food preparation to meet dietary guidelines.
  • Manage dietary staff, providing training and guidance to ensure high-quality food service delivery.
  • Oversee food safety protocols, sanitation standards, and proper handling of food items, including tube feeding procedures when necessary.
  • Collaborate with school staff to develop care plans that incorporate nutritional needs for students with special dietary requirements or health conditions.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, control inventory, and ensure cost-effective purchasing of food supplies.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the dietary department’s performance, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of meal service activities, health inspections, and staff schedules to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in site visits, classroom observations, and work groups to assess program needs and planning strategies for system/process improvement and/or development of early childhood education.
  • Provide orientation and training opportunities for volunteers, interns, staff, and others as requested.
  • Seek out nutrition related program opportunities. Ensure funding for programs through grant application applications, nonfederal match donations, and community collaboration.

Experience:

  • Proven supervising experience within a dietary or nutrition department, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles, dietetics practices, physiology related to food intake, and health coaching techniques.
  • Experience managing budgets, overseeing food safety standards, and implementing care plans for diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with assisted living environments or patient assessment procedures is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Knowledge of tube feeding procedures and diagnostic evaluation processes related to nutrition is advantageous.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.50 per hour
