JOB PURPOSE
The Safety Project Manager leads the development and execution of safety compliance and performance programs at Heartland Fabrication, LLC through a project-based approach. Working cross-functionally with employees, production operations, maintenance, engineering, and management, this role ensures safety initiatives are effectively implemented, tracked, and continuously improved to support operational excellence and risk reduction. This position will report to the Director of People Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Safety Program & Project Management
- Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, and execution of health and safety programs across multiple operational areas.
- Lead cross-functional safety initiatives such as structured projects, driving ownership, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
- Embed environmental, health, and safety objectives into broader business strategies to reduce risk, improve operational performance, and support continuous improvement.
- Champion a proactive safety culture through stakeholder engagement, change management, and performance-based accountability.
Training, Coaching & Safety Enablement
- Design and manage company-wide safety training programs aligned with regulatory requirements, operational risks, and project timelines.
- Oversee implementation and effectiveness of training initiatives, including emergency preparedness, compliance, PPE, and behavior-based safety programs.
- Partner with leadership and frontline teams to reinforce safe work practices through coaching, mentoring, and continuous education.
EHS Performance & Metrics Management
- Establish safety objectives, KPIs, and project milestones; track performance through dashboards, audits, and reporting systems.
- Lead development of standardized audit protocols to ensure compliance, consistency, and continuous improvement across facilities.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends, prioritize corrective actions, and drive risk-reduction projects.
Incident & Risk Management
- Manage end-to-end incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action plans, ensuring data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Lead Workers’ Compensation programs, including claims management, root cause analysis, and Return-to-Work initiatives.
- Apply project management principles to incident prevention strategies and post-incident improvement plans.
Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Oversight
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DEP, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead facility readiness efforts for regulatory inspections and audits, coordinating corrective actions and follow-up improvement projects.
- Monitor regulatory changes and proactively integrate requirements into safety programs and operational planning.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide direction and mentorship to staff while collaborating with senior management to align safety initiatives with organizational objectives.
- Lead and direct committees, setting agendas, managing action items, and overseeing safety related programs tied to performance metrics.
- Execute special projects and continuous improvement initiatives to advance safety maturity and support the company’s strategic vision.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Four-year college degree in Safety Management, engineering, or closely related field
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred
- Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment or closely related industry
- Familiarity with common business and EHS management software and systems
- Ability to work well under minimal supervision
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Heavy industrial worksite environment
- Exposure to outdoor elements, extreme heat and cold, dust, chemicals, and loud noise
- Standing for extended periods; lifting, bending, crouching, climbing, and working in confined spaces
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Safety-sensitive position; subject to pre-employment and reasonable-suspicion drug testing
- Overtime and flexible scheduling required
