The CDL Training Instructor provides training and prepares individuals to attain their CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) for a driver position at Heartland. The role requires using effective teaching skills, understanding, and adhering to state, DOT regulations and Heartland Safety policies.
Job Responsibilities
- Train and prepare candidates to successfully attain a CDL license.
- Deliver classroom, yard and road training toward all regulatory and company policies and procedures directly related to Driver roles.
- Maintains all records and compliance documents for training program. Ensures that all training and student records up to date are compliant with FMCSA.
- Provides training and/or validates in-outlet delivery expectations, service standards, and functional handheld computer knowledge.
- Monitor student progress, documents progress, perform evaluations and identify gaps. Provides feedback and additional assistance, as needed.
- Conducts regular in-market driver observations to improve delivery performance.
- Supports the Hometown by conducting safety observations and safety training after an accident or injury.
- High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of two years of work experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a clean driving record within MVR guidelines required. CDL license needs to cover both automatic and manual vehicles.
- Prior experience with commercial driving required.
- Ability to attend and successfully pass CDL Instructor certification via third party.
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate and provide training to others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to operate a manual or powered pallet jack.
