Machine Design Engineer
Summary / Purpose
The role of the Machine Designer is to develop a mechanical design that will safely meet the customer’s scope of work (SOW). They will be responsible for the mechanical design of production equipment and work cells used in factory automation. This includes creating 3-D models of parts and assemblies as well as 2-D detail drawings for fabrication of the components. The Mechanical Designer will create a bill of materials for the purchase of all mechanical components. They will participate in design reviews and project kick off meetings. They will occasionally have to reverse engineer equipment in the shop or on the factory floor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must have experience in mechanical design. (Experience with Toyota standards is a plus.)
- Proficient in Solid Works or similar Parasolid modeling software.
- Knowledge of Delmia/Catia software packages and how to use with Weld Gun Positions.
- Working knowledge of FEA tools in Solid Works is a plus.
- Working knowledge of machine shop practices and tolerance capabilities. Need to be able to communicate about welding and fabrication methods.
- Proficient in specifying mechanical and pneumatic components. (For example: motors, gear reducers, sprockets, bearings, air cylinders, fittings, and valves.)
- Some travel is required ~ (up to 10%. Mostly in surrounding states.)
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, technical equivalent, or vast experience required. (Experience in material handling and/or industrial automation is desired. Pay scale is commensurate with related experience level.)
- Need to be able to independently create a mechanical design from the customer's scope of work. (...After agreeing on a solution with the project manager.)
- Ability to understand design concepts, blueprints, scope of work, and contracts with little supervision. Will be asked to help prepare estimates for design time and material costs.
- Need to have basic organizational skills and be good at closing out and archiving final documents. (Solid Works PDM software is utilized.)
- Ability to effectively communicate to customers, vendors, and co-workers to work as a team is a must.

Pay: $49,099.00 - $108,666.00 per year
